Daunt to Lead Watchdog Team, Spearhead Campaign to Make Sure Independent Redistricting Commission Lives Up to Its Name
LANSING, MI, May 5, 2021 – Tony Daunt has accepted the role of Executive Director with FAIR Maps, a watchdog team created to ensure Michigan’s independent redistricting commission serves the interests of all Michigan residents.
FAIR Maps will participate in every aspect of Michigan’s redistricting process to achieve FAIR – Fair and Independent Redistricting – plans that appropriately reflect the diversity of Michigan’s population.
Daunt previously served as the Executive Director of the Michigan Freedom Fund, where he worked to protect the interests of Michigan taxpayers, promote the principles of limited government, and demand accountability from all of Michigan’s elected leaders.
“The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission has a vital mission, and one that requires engagement from all of Michigan’s citizens to be successful,” said Daunt.
“Voters backed this redistricting process because they want to get the politics out of redistricting. To their credit, we’ve seen the Commission wisely reject most Republican and Democratic job candidates, but that commitment to independence cannot waver for even a moment.”
FAIR Maps will work to represent the interests of everyday voters at Commission meetings, and will help educate and equip the general public as it participates in the Commission’s public hearings.
“Michigan voters deserve fair maps,” said Daunt. “We’re fighting every day to make sure the Commission delivers.”
